All students will be transported at Brookwood Church at 580 Brookwood Point Place, Simpsonville, SC 29681, where parents will be reunited with their student. One student has been transported to the hospital, and their condition is unknown at this time. Multiple law enforcement agencies have responded. The school resource officer immediately responded and notified law enforcement. “At approximately 12:30 pm, Greenville County Schools had reports of shots fired inside the building at Tanglewood Middle School. Waller said the school district partners with Greenville Mental Health to put counselors in schools and employs about 90 counselors in the school district. Someone is always there to open the doors,” said Waller. Brookwood is also accessible, it’s an active church that can be called on to assist in an emergency. It’s large, easy in and out for driving and busses, large parking lot for parents, lots of room inside the building for counseling and support rooms for students, rooms where students and parents can wait, and they have room to store materials that might be needed in an event like this. “Brookwood Church checks all the boxes because of its facilities. Waller said the district’s emergency response plan has multiple sites, including Brookwood Church, that are pre-determined reunification sites based on criteria that are needed to respond effectively in an emergency. Many asked why students were taken to Brookwood Church when it isn’t close to Tanglewood Middle. Director of Media Relations for Greenville County School District Tim Waller said the school had counselors at Brookwood Church talking with kids and parents for a few hours following the shooting.
